Erosion Mechanisms of Debris Flow on the Sediment Bed

چکیده

Debris flows are common geological hazards in mountainous regions worldwide. The scale of debris can be significantly enhanced by basal erosion and bank collapse the transportation process, resulting an increase casualties property losses. However, mechanisms this growth largely unclear. Here, we conduct a series experiments to investigate two different bed sediments (coarse-grained widely graded) released with three densities volumes. revealed comparing detailed sensor data for flow level, pore pressure total normal stress. A nose develops on coarse-grained sediment, high depth low velocity, while tabular graded leading velocity. mean rates sediment generally higher than those due significant developed sediment. feedback effect process strongly influences which turn affects rate interaction between overlying controls pattern: is eroded layer mass movement whereas progressively scoured. during principally attributed pore-pressure transmission.

Critical conditions of bed sediment entrainment due to debris flow

The present study describes entrainment characteristics of bed material into debris flow, based on flume tests, numerical and dimensional analyses. Flume tests are conducted to investigate influences of bed sediment size on erosion rate by supplying debris flows having unsaturated sediment concentration over erodible beds. Experimental results show that the erosion rate decreases monotonically ...

the effects of changing roughness on the flow structure in the bends

flow in natural river bends is a complex and turbulent phenomenon which affects the scour and sedimentations and causes an irregular bed topography on the bed. for the reason, the flow hydralics and the parameters which affect the flow to be studied and understand. in this study the effect of bed and wall roughness using the software fluent discussed in a sharp 90-degree flume bend with 40.3cm ...

Erosion of a granular bed driven by laminar fluid flow

Motivated by examples of erosive incision of channels in sand, we investigate the motion of individual grains in a granular bed driven by a laminar fluid to give us new insights into the relationship between hydrodynamic stress and surface granular flow. A closed cell of rectangular cross-section is partially filled with glass beads and a constant fluid flux Q flows through the cell. The refrac...

Introduction to the special issue on debris flows initiated by runoff, erosion, and sediment entrainment in western North America

Debris flows are one of the most hazardous types of landslides in mountainous areas of western North America because they are fast moving and can occur with little warning. Field observations and existing literature indicate that three primary types of nonvolcanic debris flows affect areas of western North America (Fig. 1): 1) debris flows that mobilize from landslides (i.e., “slides” using the...
